Dr. Tullis is a board-certified periodontist and dental implant surgeon. He found his passion for periodontics as a second career, after first working as a chemical process engineer.
What is a periodontist anyway? Dr. Tullis is a dental specialist that saves teeth. Periodontal, or gum disease, is the leading reason that adults lose teeth. Gum disease also contributes to many chronic diseases that afflict the rest of the body. The periodontist has specialized training in both corrective and regenerative oral medicine to help people keep their teeth. When a tooth can’t be saved, Dr. Tullis can remove it with a minimally invasive extraction and place a dental implant. The periodontist is also uniquely trained to help maintain the health of existing implants.
Dr. Tullis earned his DDS at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. After dental school he completed 4 years of residency training, including a 1-year residency in Advanced General Dentistry, and a 3-year residency in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. During dental school he was selected for honors clerkships in both oral surgery and periodontics and published research on 3D jaw imaging in the Journal of Oral Implantology. During residency he completed a human clinical trial on bone grafting techniques.
Dr. Tullis enjoys volunteering inside and outside of dentistry. After high school he completed a 2-year mission to Brazil, and during dental school a surgical mission trip to Peru. Since moving to Colorado, he volunteers at the Colorado Mission of Mercy every year.
Outside of the clinic Dr. Tullis enjoys hiking with his family, watching football, working out, and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In Nov 2022, the SoCO Periodontics team moved into a new, larger office at Briar Village Point. Come check it out!
The SoCO Periodontics team is honored to be nominated for a third consecutive year as a “Top Dentist!”
